Was originally trying to decide on a color inkjet type printer or a b/w laser printer.
Specifically I was avoiding Hewlett Packard printers because their drivers are so bloated that it would always make the fan on my laptop go haywire...even if I was just printing out a single page word document! Brother printer drivers are super minimal in comparison and my Macbook doesn't even blink.
I chose this printer and I haven't looked back. Have had it for about 2 years and it works like a charm. My wife and I both use the wireless from three different laptops (IBM thinkpad, iBook, and Macbook) and it is nearly flawless. The great thing about the wireless is that you can print from separate computers without having to worry about the queue or swapping out the USB cable, etc. And you can print from any room in the house! Set up was smooth although you have to make sure that you follow the instructions (and do the initial setup wired!). Have had to turn the printer off/on about 3 times since we bought it because it wouldn't wake from sleep but other than that have not had any problems.
Prints fast, rocksteady reliability, wireless, small footprint, compact drivers, and under $100, what more can you ask for?

Setup is easy if you take your time and follow the instructions carefully. Be sure and use the suggested USB install, even though wi-fi is available.
Operation is fine; haven't printed enough to evaluate cost/copy however.
Only complaint is that the paper drawer is difficult to open and somewhat flimsy, so I'm very careful not to break it.

We needed a printer specifically for printing out crossword puzzles. The puzzles use up a lot of ink, if you can picture all the black squares, and we were constanly running out of black ink. It was becoming way too expensive. As I was looking into printers that would suit my needs my nephew, who is like my own personal shopper :) suggested the Brother's HL 2170W. It is so fast, does just blk/wht which is what I wanted and uses toner cartridges instead of ink. I did have the toner light flashing in just a few days but I took the online advise from other consumers and covered the sidehole. It worked and I am now two weeks later still printing clear, sharp puzzles. Thank you Amazon for your comments and your good pricing ($99.00).
